The other day our new 30hl botti from Montepulciano arrived. We have been so so happy with the results from our other foudres that I just want more! The beautiful red Nobile di Montepulciano was only emptied from it just before it was sent straight to the island. There is a little bit of information on the wine below as well as the photo of the beautiful cellar at the wineary.

Interestingly the barrel came in crooked which was  a bit special for us as we don’t really have any any big machinery that can lift it. But a couple of hours of thinking and help from some friends, the boys managed to get it turned and straight. And we even managed to get it into place in the barrel room with about a millimeter to spare between the door and the side of the barrel. It was a touch nerve-wrecking.

And now it is filled with an amber ale that had a primary fermentation in steel and then a secondary fermentation in the barrel with our Garden Party Culture. Cant wait to see how this this turns out in a year or two!

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a red wine with a Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita status produced in the vineyards surrounding the town of Montepulciano, Italy. The wine is made primarily from the Sangiovese grape varietal known locally as Prugnolo gentile (minimum 70%), blended with Canaiolo Nero (10%–20%) and small amounts of other local varieties such as Mammolo. The wine is generally aged for 2 years (at least 1 year in oak barrels); three years if it is a riserva.
